Tom Waits is awesome. This album is awesome (hopefully you already know this). The guy has been putting out great music for almost forty years. Not much else to say.
Walking Spanish
Anywhere I Lay My Head
Be sure to pick this one up. It's pretty essential.
Disclaimer: Same as always.

My favorite Black Flag release. This is the only record to feature Chuck Biscuits on drums as well as the tracks "Yes I Know" and "What Can You Believe?" Other than that, you get a handful of alternate versions of tracks from My War and Slip it In. Everything just sounds awesome here--more rawness, more energy, and more aggression. This is the definition of hardcore punk. For Black Flag fans it's an absoulte must have.
What Can You Believe
Yes I Know
So good. You can't really buy this anywhere, but I hear you can download the full album on the internets...

Glitchy electronic influenced post-rock. Not sure what more to say. It has its moments.

Perhaps the best solo Wu-Tang release? It's debatable, but this record is definitely up there. Anyways, this album has some real bangers and does a pretty good job mixing in some pretty bad ass samurai movie samples. RZA's production and GZA's rapping are both really solid (although GZA does sound a bit tooooo relaxed at times). Plus, the art work is beyond dope. Check it out if you haven't already:
Liquid Swords
4th Chamber
Yeah. You should buy it too.

I'm trying my best to keep the blog musically diverse... so here we have one of the finest technical death metal albums ever, by a band that is unsurprisingly named Death. I'm not even a big death metal fan, but this is a sweet album (actually pretty much everything released by Death is awesome). This album, along with Human and Individual Thought Patterns, really helped established thinking man's metal. While both of those are great records, the thing about Symbolic is that it's actually catchier. Human and Individual Thought Patterns have alot of awesome jazzy riffs and complex song structures and whatnot, but let's face it, as great as some of those tracks are, they just aren't as catchy as say, "Crystal Mountain." You guys decide:
Crystal Mountain
Without Judgement
Pretty good? Hopefully you dig it, even if you aren't a fan of the genre. Buy it anyways.
And... the disclaimer: this is for promotional use only. If the band does not wish for their material to be posted please let us know at publications@kscr.org so we can take it down.

Yet another great, yet somewhat forgotten 80s punk/alternative rock act. Husker Du began as a straight up hardcore punk band similar to that of Black Flag and other SST bands, but differentiated themselves by focusing more on melody, which eventually helped shape alternative college rock. New Day Rising is arguably their best album (but check out all of them if you can, especially Zen Arcade) and showcases the bands transition from blistering punk to upbeat melodic alternative rock. Here's a few tracks to wet your appetite:
New Day Rising
Terms of Psychic Warfare
If you're a fan of the fuzzy guitar and melodic undertones, be sure to buy it!

Second post! I hope to keep the blog musically varied, so here we have Big L, another one of those fantastic east coast 90 rappers who flew under the radar. This was his only release unfortunately, before he passed away like any good rapper. Anyways, L drops some really sick rhymes and pretty much kills on every track. I would have to say his flow and lyricism even rivals that of Biggie. If you haven't heard this yet, check it:
Put it On
All Black
As usual, if you dig it, buy it!
